Jeremy Betterley
Environmentalist, Musician
I first started learning about music and guitar when I was 15 and it has been a central part of my life ever since. My experience mainly resides in two genres--folk and ska. I've played guitar and bass in three different ska bands and performed as a singer-songwriter, guitarist, mandolinist, and ukukelist in the folk genre. I pride myself on being a flexible and multi-talented musician who can play many different instruments, sing, and offer s kills in recording and live sound engineering to a group or performance.
I spent two wonderful summers working as a music teacher at Windsor Mountain International Summer Camp during college which exposed me to the wonderful worlds of traditional American folk music and music education. I had similar responsibilities at Primitive Pursuits in Ithaca, New York.
In 2013 I was named best mandolin player at the Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance string instrument competition.
I offer guitar, mandolin, bass guitar, and ukulele lessons through my business Uke Can Do It.
Music
Solo Career
I write, play and record songs in the folk and folk rock genre. I've released one EP called the Yellow Line EP which is available on bandcamp at jkbetterley.bandcamp.com. I intend to release an LP in the Winter or Spring of 2016.
The Mockingbeards
The Mockingbeards are a quartet playing original folk rock music. I share the roles of mandolinist, songwriter, singer, and guitarist and handle most of the audio engineering.
Gypsy Gets Shotgun
I was the guitarist for Gypsy Gets Shotgun, a ska band former at Ithaca College. The band's name refers to GPS devices and front-passenger seats.
